ANNOUNCING THE SHORTLIST NOMINEES FOR THE 2025 CARTOONIST STUDIO PRIZE

For immediate release

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VERMONT – Each year, The Cartoonist Studio Prize will be awarded to work that exemplifies excellence in cartooning. The creators of two exceptional comics will be awarded $1,000 each. This year, there are twelve nominees in each the “long-form” category and the “short-form” category. The winners for each category will be announced in April 2025.

Announcing the winners of the 2024 CARTOONIST STUDIO PRIZE

The twelfth annual Cartoonist Studio Prize is presented by The Center for Cartoon Studies and The Beat. Each year, the Cartoonist Studio Prize is awarded to work that exemplifies excellence in cartooning. The creators of two exceptional comics for this year will be awarded $1,000 each. The winners were selected by The Beat and The Schulz Library staff at The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS).

The winner in the Best Long-Form Comic category is The Great Beyond by Léa Murawiec by Léa Murawiec. The Great Beyond was translated by Aleshia Jensen and published by Drawn and Quarterly in October 2023.

The winner in the Best Short-Form Comic category is 10-10 to the Wind by Cole Degenstein by Cole Degenstein. 10-10 to the Wind was published in September 2023 by Fieldmouse Press.

Announcing the 10th Cartoonist Studio Prize

The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS) is thrilled to announce that the Cartoonist Studio Prize is back for its 10th year running! This year we are teaming up again with The Beat to recognize the year’s most exceptional graphic novels and webcomics. The Cartoonist Studio Prize Shortlist Announced

Today, The Beat is pleased to announce the shortlist for the 2021 Cartoonist Studio Prize.

The Cartoonist Studio Prize is an annual award from The Center for Cartoon Studies. Over the years, The Beat has been honored to announce the nominees and winners, and this year, we’re especially proud to be the media partner for the award.

There are two categories for the 2021 Cartoonist Studio Prize: print and digital. Winners in each category will be awarded a $1,000 prize and a Wacom One Creative Pen Display. The winners for each category will be announced on April 15^th, 2021.

Announcing the Winners of the Eighth Cartoonist Studio Prize

The best print and web comic of the year, selected by the Slate Book Review and the Center for Cartoon Studies.

The Slate Book Review and The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS) are proud to announce the winners of the eighth annual Cartoonist Studio Prize. The winners were selected by Slate’s Dan Kois, the faculty and students at The Center for Cartoon Studies (as represented by the Schulz Library’s Dan Nott), and this year’s guest judge, Candida Rifkind, a comics scholar at the University of Winnipeg.

Slate and The Center for Cartoon Studies will once again name the best print and webcomic of the year

Each year the Cartoonist Studio Prize will be awarded to work that exemplifies excellence in cartooning. The creators of two exceptional comics will be awarded $1000 each. Winners will be selected by Slate’s Dan Kois, the faculty and students of The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS), and this year’s guest judge, Candida Rifkind President of the Comics Studies Society and co-editor of the new Wilfrid Laurier UP book series Crossing Lines: Transcultural/Transnational Comics Studies. The deadline to enter is January 31.

Graduate Spotlight: Jarad Greene ′17

Jarad Greene ’17 just sold his first graphic novel, Scullion! So a big congratulations on your graphic novel debut, Jarad. He is the administrative and development coordinator at The Center for Cartoon Studies. In 2017, he was selected to represent CCS on the judging panel for the Cartoonist Studio Prize, which selected Eleanor Davis for Libby’s Dad (Retrofit and Big Planet Comics) and Christina Tran for “On Beauty.” His mini-comic Memories of a Former Porcelain Doll won a 2017 MICE mini-grant. He recently did the following interview with Angela Boyle ′16.
