FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
White River Junction, Vermont –The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS) has named K.L. Ricks its program fellow for the 2022-23 academic year. Ricks is an artist and writer whose work explores the interior worlds and intimate humanity of the individuals she creates and depicts. Her first graphic novel, Naima, will be published by First Second Books (Macmillan Publishers).
“K.L.’s work is transporting and leaves a lasting impression,” says CCS director James Sturm. The CCS Program Fellowship is awarded to an emerging cartoonist who has already achieved significant critical and/or professional stature. The program is designed to help the cartoonist enter the next phase of their career by providing access to CCS’s many resources. A full list of former fellows can be found here.
“I’m incredibly honored to have been chosen for this fellowship, it means a lot to have so many people believe in me and my work. CCS is a wonderful community and I’m really looking forward to being a part of it.”
K.L. received her BFA in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2012 and her clients include The New York Times, The New Yorker, Penguin Random House, Southern Poverty Law Center, NBC, NPR, MIT, and Cartoon Network.
